Close Encounters on Ice – Original music at the Helsinki Ice Park

Satin Circus

Close Encounters on Ice brings live music to the coolest meeting point of Helsinki: the Ice Park next to the central railway station.  It’s an event that brings together bands, people and skaters on Valentine’s day, February 14th.

You can come with friends or make new friends while skating. You can also have a cup of tea or coffee while listening to new music from all over the world. Don’t worry if you don’t have your own skates, you can rent a pair. If you don’t like skating, you can also come and listen only to the bands. The program starts at 3 PM (15:00), and the fun continues until 8 PM (20:00), and it’s free entry!

The program features musicians from Kenya, USA, France, Latvia, Estonia and Finland. They all represent different genres and cultures, so there is definitely going to be something to dig for everyone. Wambura Mitaru Synergy (USA/KEN) will bring a warm breeze from Africa with their soulful world music. A combination of African rhythms, melodies and flowing vocals, Wambura Mitaru Synergy’s sweet music is sure to brighten up your day.

If you haven’t met the energetic popsters of Satin Circus (FIN) yet, now is your chance to see them live before they travel to Miami to shoot their next music video. Satin Circus is definitely a rising star on the Finnish pop scene with a record deal with Sony Music and big plans to rise to the top. The Funky Awards nominee Oaklyn (FIN) is also a group you should definitely check out. Oaklyn is a fresh duo formed by producer Sami Tammela and vocalist Linda Ilves. Their nordic soul is a unique blend of hiphop, soulful jazz and electronic music.

Grandeville (FIN) makes you dance with their wild electronic powerpop, and Bye Mandu (FIN) will surely get you in a good mood with their optimistic indie pop. Liqui Fuzz (EST) presents their alternative rock straight from Tallinn, and Clo’s (FRA) rocking tunes and her husky voice will rock your world. Remnant of the Sun’s (LV) experimental rock has sounds from alternative rock and jazz and Mowgli’s (FIN) energetic poprock will melt your heart. What else can you ask for?

Come and witness an evening packed with great performances worth checking out!
